Strong dog breeds for traveling?

Question: Strong dog breeds for traveling?

(Posted by: ManPig on 2010-03-09 00:05:19)

I'm a Nomad and while traveling i've become quite lonely. Whats a good breed of dog/ wolf that could travel with me. I researched the African Wild Dog, but it would be quite hard to acquire one of those, especially as a pup.

Can't go wrong with a beautiful Golden Retriever! They are such happy, loving animals, and adjust very well to their environment.

Yorkshire Terriers are fantastic. They are small enough you can just put them in a bag and carry them, or if you are tired you can make them walk. I highly suggest this dog breed. They are pretty good protective dogs too, probably one of the best.

Woah, woah, woah! Do NOT under any circumstances get a wild animal for a companion. Ever seen a chimp maul someone's face off? Same concept. And I don't know any shelter where you could get them to let you adopt a dog and then disappear. It doesn't sound like you have a job, since most "nomads " live outdoors in lean-tos. You're lonely because you're a hermit. How about being normal before endangering the life of another living thing. Scratch what I said about an adult dog. Just don't get a dog. I've thought about it and living in a tent with an unsure source of resources is not a good situation for you and is even worse if another being is relying on you to provide or him/ her.

You're a nomad?! People still do that?

I once met a nomad with a red heeler

You're a Nomad with access to the Internet? Doesn't quite ring true to me. However, if you are serious try to get a medium sized rescue dog from one of the thousands that have been abandoned in the rescue centres. Explain that you need a fit, strong dog as you plan to give it lots of exercise (!).

ROFLOL - Firstly the name WILD DOG, means that. There are NO, absolutely NO African Wild Dogs kept as domestic pets. ZILCH, NONE, NEVER. OK? # That out the way, your average rescue crossbreed is probably the best, neutered of course. However, acquiring a dog from a reputable rescue shellter, or breeder, without a permanent address is not going to be easy.
